Morningside Park is currently valued for its recreational green space, shaped by its challenging topography. This project aims to transform its use by addressing these constraints while preserving its natural character. The plan introduces an educational architectural intervention that connects two neighborhoods and establishes a platform for knowledge exchange.
The intervention is designed as a subterranean "street," blending education with the park's movement and redefining the concept of a street as a dynamic link. This underground structure avoids disrupting the park’s surface, preserving its intrinsic nature. Above ground, a gymnasium floats as a monumental and iconic element, contrasting the park's natural setting while enhancing its skyline.
This project reimagines education by creating a flexible, non-traditional learning environment, activating the park’s potential and integrating education into its landscape without compromising its recreational value.
