From Matter to Limitless Possibilities

The exhibition is built around the idea of “Depositing the Future, Layer by Layer.” It draws from the process of refining stone and sand, where material is gradually purified. Here, light is used to describe this process.

This reflects Hermes-Epitek’s role in advancing the overall production processes. Technology develops through layers of process and accumulated expertise, and extends toward future possibilities.

The space is composed of an array of reusable acrylic tubes, creating an open and flowing environment. The transparent columns hold and diffuse light, inviting people to move through and settle softly within.

Each tube is filled with recycled glass sand that interacts with light. The sand is rented and will be returned after the exhibition. At the same time, Hermes-Epitek works with partners who handle industrial waste and sludge.

Materials from this recycling process, which are being refined into silicon dioxide, are borrowed and placed inside the tubes. In this exhibition, materials are not shown as finished products, but as part of an ongoing process.

Substances from production become part of the space, revealing the material quality of the technology industry

The craftsman confirmed that both the counterweight windows and the paired side windows required 2mm reclaimed glass to control weight. The panes were fixed with triangular cypress glazing beads.

Each sheet of glass was removed and cleaned individually. Nearly two weeks were spent removing old paint, mineral stains, and surface residue. Before installation, the glass was wiped with kerosene.

Fabricating the cypress glazing beads proved the most difficult part. Fortunately, Master Chang from Ziguan made a custom jig to produce them. After painting, they were handed over to the glazier for installation, allowing the process to be completed.
